Artist Statement

I am a creator of all things. Ever since I was little, I have had the liveliness in making art. My current artistic endeavours are focused on creating theatre. My theatrical work includes management and scenic construction, artistry, and design. Through this work I find purpose. I enjoy knowing I’m making an impact on part of the world, even if it is just a small one. I like knowing that my work may touch someone’s life, even if it is just one person. Many people find comfort in art, and turn to art in times of darkness. It’s important to me to know that through theatre I can contribute to other people’s lives and provide them that comfort. To me, nothing feels better than sitting in the audience of a show and opening up your heart to the story and all of the talents you get to witness.

As a manager, I get to be there every step of the way. I’m very honored to be allowed to work with so many different people during the process whether it’s designers or technicians or actors. Watching not only the production but also the people grow throughout the process is a level of intimacy that I am thankful to be able to witness. Fostering environments for artists to blossom is just as fulfilling to me as being able to blossom myself. When I am a manager I also find fulfillment in knowing others trust me as a leader and are comfortable coming to me when they need support. I strive to continue to be someone others can depend on. As a scenic artist and designer I like to have fun with my art. I’m not afraid to make mistakes, as I know there will always be a way to fix them. I am always growing as an artist as I find new techniques and styles to explore. I think creating art should be fun and messy and not be constrained to any barriers.

Through my art I aim to find myself, while helping others find themself along the way. As a queer, Asian artist I love to include pieces of myself and my identity in my art, and I want to encourage other artists to do the same. I think letting yourself shine as an individual is a key factor to contributing to the group as a whole. Collaboration and inclusion in a community can only make your art stronger, especially when it comes to art forms like theatre that thrive due to the many people who’s talents get to be shared. Through my work I hope to foster these kinds of communities and continue to help fulfill other’s lives with continue to grow and fulfill mine.
